Family reunification
Family reunification in Spain: requirements and documents
What the sponsor must prove, which relatives can be included and which documents are usually required for family reunification.
1. Who can sponsor and who can be reunited
Family reunification allows a foreign national legally resident in Spain to request authorization for certain relatives, such as a spouse or partner, children and, in specific cases, ascendants or other dependent persons.
As a general rule, the sponsor must have lived in Spain for at least one year and have requested authorization to reside for at least one more year, although there are exceptions for certain permits.
2. Financial means, housing and health insurance
The file must prove fixed and regular financial means sufficient for the family unit, adequate housing and health insurance when required for the sponsor and relatives.
Housing is usually proven through a report from the competent autonomous community or town hall, or through substitute documentation when the report is not issued within the expected period.
3. Documents and stages of the procedure
The usual documents include form EX-02, sponsor's passport, residence card, proof of financial means, housing report, family relationship proof and the passport of the relative to be reunited.
If authorization is granted, the relative must request the visa at the relevant consulate and, once in Spain, apply for the foreigner identity card within the applicable deadline.
Practical preparation in Fuengirola
For many procedures in Fuengirola, the result depends on coordinating local and foreign documents properly: local registration, appointments, municipal certificates, translations, legalizations, bank records and electronic notifications.
It is useful to prepare a digital folder with clear copies, organized file names and visible dates. This makes it easier to respond quickly if an office asks for clarification or additional documents.
When to seek professional help
Professional help is especially useful when there are criminal records, documents from several countries, approaching deadlines, previous refusals, address changes, doubts about the right procedure or inconsistencies between certificates.
A prior review makes it possible to detect whether an essential piece is missing before paying fees, booking appointments or filing an application that may later become blocked.
