The residence card for family members of EU citizens allows certain non-EU relatives to live in Spain when accompanying or joining an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen.
Overview
The official route is the residence card for family members of EU citizens. It is used when the non-EU relative accompanies or joins in Spain an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen who will stay for more than three months.
The official information sheet requires proof of the family relationship and that the EU citizen fits one of the accepted situations: employee, self-employed worker, person with sufficient resources and health insurance, or student with means and coverage.
Requirements
- Non-EU family member of an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen who will reside in Spain for more than three months.
- Family relationship proven through a valid official certificate.
- The EU citizen must be a worker, self-employed, student with means and insurance, or a person with sufficient resources and health coverage.
- There must be no public-order, security or health grounds preventing residence.
Common documents
- EX-19 form and proof of payment of the relevant government fee.
- Full passport of the applicant relative and identity document of the EU citizen.
- Marriage, birth or registered-partnership certificate, or other proof of the relationship, with apostille and translation where necessary.
- Documents proving employment, economic activity, health insurance or resources of the EU citizen, depending on the case.
