Long-term residence
Long-term residence authorizes indefinite residence and work in Spain, under the same conditions as Spaniards, once the requirements of legal and continuous stay are met.
Overview
Official guidance generally requires five years of legal and continuous residence in Spain to access long-term residence.
The absence history is also reviewed carefully. The official sheet states that continuity is not broken by absences of up to six consecutive months, provided the total does not exceed ten months in five years, or eighteen months for work reasons.
Requirements
- Five years of legal and continuous residence in Spain, except for special cases expressly provided by law.
- Absences kept within the official applicable limits.
- Valid passport and a coherent documentary file.
Common documents
- Official long-term residence form and proof of payment of the administrative fee.
